Lynn Marie Phillips, 38, of Hughesville, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at University Hospital, Columbia. She was born on December 21, 1973, in Rolla, MO, a daughter of John William and Carolyn (Thomas) Rees.
On August 8, 1997, at Georgetown United Methodist Church, she was united in marriage to Peter Wade Phillips who survives of the home.
She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sedalia and a member of Georgetown United Methodist Church. Lynn graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1992, State Fair Community College in 1994, Central Missouri State University in 1997. Lynn worked for many years at Sedalia Book and Toy. Lynn was an educator at Skyline Elementary School, Sedalia from 1997-2012. She proudly served as a third grade teacher from 1997-2003. During that time she was awarded the district’s Outstanding Educator of the Year Award. In the fall of 2004, she became the Skyline School Librarian. Over the past fifteen years she touched many young people in our community. She would continue to follow the lives of her former students and was always thrilled with their successes. She shared her love for books with not only children in our community, but also throughout the state as a member of the Show-Me Reader Award Committee. Lynn was instrumental in writing and receiving the first eMINTS grant for the Sedalia School District. She was a member of Skyline PTA, SCEA, MSTA, CRASL, the Missouri State Library Association, and the Missouri Association of School Librarians. She loved her Library, her books and her students.
Besides her parents and husband she is survived by her three children, Alexandra, William and Jacob Phillips; a sister, Ann Adams and her husband Mike of Sedalia, as well as her Grand Mother Dorothy Lutjen Thomas, father in-law Eldon McClain of Sedalia, her Mother- and Father-In-Law Susan and Butch Phillips, her Sister- and Brother-In-Law Robin and Ryan Henley, along with many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Grandfather William Russell Thomas and her Great Grandmother Fern Forbes Thomas.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at The Celebration Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 31, 2012 at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center with Rev. Kenny Cripe officiating.
Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery, Sedalia.
Pallbearers will be Friend Wade Norton, Cousin Gevan McCoy, Cousin Mark Hastings, Uncle Phil Hastings, Uncle Randy McCoy and Uncle Ralph Meyers.
Memorial donations are suggested to The American Cancer Society, Georgetown United Methodist Church or the Phillips Childrens’ Education Fund, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
