Joseph Lincoln Knight, 81, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center, Sedalia. He was born on February 12, 1931, a son of Washington and Viola (Vinyard) Knight.


On April 5, 1953, in Sweet Springs, MO, he was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Elwell, who survives of the home.


Joe served his country honorably for 41 years in the Missouri Army National Guard, retiring as MSGT on February 16, 1991.  Joe loved to bowl, fish and work on cars. He owned and operated Joe Knight Auto & Truck Service, where he built cars and loved racing them.


Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Dianna Lynn Kindle and her husband Riley of Kalispell, MT, Joseph Douglas Knight and his wife Shawn of Sedalia, Barbara Elaine Treese and her husband John of Bonner Springs, KS; one sister, Karen Kreisel and her husband Eldon of Marshall, MO; one brother Bill Knight of Sunrise Beach, MO; six grandchildren, Julie, Jesse, Holly, Sarah, Megan and Josi and seven great grandchildren.


Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Jean Petty and a grandson, Adam Kindle.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, July 2, 2012 at Rea Funeral Chapel.


Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2012.


Pallbearers will be, Doug Knight, Jesse Kindle, Zel White, Steven Wansing, Kelly Wansing and Scott Wansing.


Memorial contributions are suggested to The Pettis County, American Cancer Society in care of the funeral chapel.
