Van E. Jones, 86 of Sedalia passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Missouri Veterans’ Home, Warrensburg.


Van was born, December 25, 1925 in Nelson, Mo., a son of Elmo and Flossie (Van Horn) Jones.  He was a US Navy veteran, proudly serving from 1942 to 1947.  He was married to Joanna Mitchell until she passed away on December 23, 1978.  He and Joanna were the parents of three children, who survive.


On July 17, 1982, he was married to Marie E. Bodenhamer, who survives of the home.


Van was active in sports.  In high school he played basketball, he was an avid water skier, motorcyclist, and piloted a small airplane.  Van was known for his kindness and his gentle fun-loving personality.  He was retired from the State of Missouri.


Survivors include, three children: Lawrence Jones (Tracy), Pensacola, FL; Carol Boling (Wayne), Marshall; and Martin Jones, Marshall; stepchildren: Dr. Fred Bodenhamer (Cheryl), Jefferson City; and Patsy Pettit (Rick) of Sedalia; grandchildren – Bradley Boling, Warner Jones; step-grandchildren, Barrett Sutton; Dr. Sally Bodenhamer and Dr. Bret Bodenhamer and Laura Landwehr (Louis) all of Jefferson City.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.  Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia with Father Jim Betzen officiating.


The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.


Pallbearers are: Martin Jones, Barrett Sutton, Lawrence Jones, Dr. Fred Bodenhamer, Rick Pettit, and Dr. Bret Bodenhamer.  He will be laid to rest in the Clifton City Cemetery.

Burial will in St. Joseph Cemetery, Clifton City.


Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart School or the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg.
