Esther Louise LaBille, 88, of Sedalia, passed away, Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at her home. She was born on September 21, 1922, in Havre, Montana, a daughter of Ernest and Verona Hubbert.
On May 13, 1944, in Greenville, IL, she was united in marriage to Joseph LaBille, who preceded her in death on February 10, 1993.
She moved to Sedalia from Kansas City in 1958. She and her husband owned the Seatlest Milk Distributorship from 1958 to 1984. She was a homemaker and operated the Smithton Café for two years. She was also employed by the former, Sedalia Country Club and the N 65 Café, before going to work for Palmer Tool and Supply, as office Manager, in 1972. She was in their employment, until August 1991 and upon leaving she was employed by the State Fair Restaurant until she retired in 1994.
She was involved with the Paul Khoury girls softball league for several years holding the office of Secretary and Treasurer. In 1978, she received the Paul Khoury Meritorious Service Award. She was also very active in the Ladies Bowling League, winning several awards in both the city and State tournaments.
She loved her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their school events, especially those involving sports. Esther was known for her cooking and one of a kind birthday cakes. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. One of her most cherished moments is when she met Stan Musial at the age of 78. She also loved gardening, caring for her yard, working crossword puzzles, and playing Kings in the Corner.
Esther recommitted her life to Christ and became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in May 2008. She enjoyed attending Sunday school and was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class.
Esther touched many lives, especially in the last 9 years as she battled poor health and numerous surgeries. She was an inspiration to those who cared for her, rarely complained and always could produce a smile even in the most difficult times. She gave encouragement to others who had also experienced amputations.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara White and her husband Martin of Sedalia; two sons, Richard "Brad" LaBille and his wife Vicki of Sedalia, Dennis LaBille and his wife Ginger of Smithton; ten grandchildren, Tina, Richard, Tracy, Todd, Dara, Jan, Shani, Devon, Brooke and Spencer; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce LaBille Runyan, a grandson Jared Lee LaBille and her brothers, Joe and Jack Hubbert.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia, with Dr. Rick Adams and Dr. DJ Allcorn officiating. Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to service, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Wesley UMC or Smithton Cemetery, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Todd LaBille, Richard LaBille II, Spencer White, Martin White, Lanny Palmer, Dave Palmer, Jerry Palmer and Mike Wood.
Honorary bearers will be Mike Hawk, Salty Schumaker, Bill Linski, Dr. William Woolery, Charlie Palmer, Kelly Lehman, Tammie Heimsoth, Jean Thompson, JoAnn Keele and her Wesley Fellowship Sunday school class.

Velma Loraine Stevens, 84, of Independence, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Friday, February 28, 2011, at Center Point Medical Center, Independence. She was born on September 6, 1926, in Pettis County, a daughter of Alfred James and Nettie Martin Hopkins.
She is survived by three sons, Stephen E. Rickard and his wife Jackie of Youngston, OH, Robert T. Hopkins of Kansas City and Gary Cherkas and his wife Debbie of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Charldene Stevens of Kansas City; two sisters, Judy Wasson of Sedalia and Ruth Prihoda of El Campo, TX; two brothers, Don Hopkins of Houstonia and David Hopkins of Sedalia; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Hazel Marie Hopkins at infancy, Melva Hepburn, Lois Caton and Elsie Huffman; a brother, Alfred Martin Hopkins.
Graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 7, 2011, at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, with Pastor Craig Bowen officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be given to family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Don Hopkins, Zac Hopkins, Wayne Brennen and Gabriel Mejia.

Carla Janene Bennett, 44, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. She was born on November 5, 1966, in Sedalia, a daughter of Carroll W. and Janice Bennett.
She was a member of the Westside Assembly Church and worked at Interstate Studios in Sedalia. She was devoted to her children and enjoyed spending time with her kids and family was very special to her. For recreation she liked to "go to the boats".
She is survived by her mother, Janice, of Sedalia; two daughters, Janel and Kelsi Holman of Sedalia; a son, Logan Holman also of Sedalia; three sisters, Pam Egan and her husband Lewis, Mona Wheeler and Stacy Admire of Sedalia; two brothers, Vernon Bennett of Jamestown and Tommy Kammerich of Sedalia; and with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her companion, Larry Holman on April 30, 2010.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Ed Broyles officiating. A private family burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery on Monday.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Sunday.
Family suggests memorial contributions to The American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Door, Randall Russell, Tommy Kammerich, Vernon Bennett, Dean Amos, and Lewis Egan.

Russell Earl Petree

Russell Earl Petree, 76, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center, Sedalia. He was born on November 7,1934, at the family farm in Syracuse, MO, a son of James Henry and Hazell May (Chaney) Petree. He was the youngest of 13 children.
On July 17, 1952, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Frances Irene Ford, who preceded him in death on March 17, 1985.
He was an avid race fan, for local racing and Nascar. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling in his RV and camping with his family. He was known for his generosity and warm heart.
He was employed by the Sedalia Democrat for many years, owned Russ’s Fina Stations on E. Broadway and S. Limit for years and most currently owned and operated Russ’s Delivery and Lawn Care.
He is survived by 4 children: Marla (Melvin) Lange, Colleen (Ray) Suppes, Scarlett [Wendy] (Bob) Rumsey, Rusty (Tracy) Petree all of the Sedalia area. 10 grandchildren: Carmen Brock, Michael Lange, Mikki Cohen, Amy Wooten, Krista Bay, Jeremy Wolfe, Chad Wolfe, Chastity Rumsey, Matthew Petree, and Brianna Petree. 9 great-grandchildren: Alyson Brock, Chase Cohen, Noah Cohen, Mackenzie Wooten, Fantasia Rumsey, Shaykota Rumsey, Kaleb Wolfe, Kayden Wolfe, and Marcus Wolfe. He is also survived by his loving friend of many years, Marie Shipwright.
Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jim Downing officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, February 25, 2011 at the funeral chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
