Ruth Gottschalk Painter, 98, of Sedalia, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at Fair View Nursing Home. She was born on April 4, 1912, in Kansas City, MO, a daughter of Charles and Lillie Lee Hull Gottschalk.

On December 12, 1936, in Dresden, MO, she was united in marriage to Harold Nelson Painter, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1996 .

Ruth was a 1930 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She graduated from Central Missouri State Teacher College in 1934, where she was a member of the Kappa Omicron Phi for four years. Ruth was the Scott School teacher of the year in 1936 - 37. She taught school at Ocean Spring public school, in Ocean Springs, MS from 1944 - 1950. She came back to Sedalia to teach at Mark Twain Elementary School from 1954 - 1965 and then at Washington Elementary from 1965 - 1972.

She was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church, past Matron and past President of Pettis Chapter #279 Order of the Eastern Star, past President of the Social Order of Beaceaunt and Knife and Fork Club and Sedalia School District #200 PTA from 1954 - 1972.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Ann Painter of Sedalia and Donna Jo Margerum and her husband Mike of Reno, NV; two grandchildren, Sherry Jo Painter-Torres and Elizabeth Margerum; and a great grandson, Phoenix Mason Painter-Torres.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Nelson Lee Painter; a sister Opal Lucille Goffar; four brothers, Herbert Gottschalk, Charles Gottschalk, Victor Gottschalk, and Paul Gottschalk.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Al Oetman officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends from on 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the funeral chapel.

Pallbearers will be Enrique (Henry) Torres, Phoenix Painter-Torres, Anthony Torres, Andrew Torres, Elbert Gottschalk, and Fred Gottschalk.

Herbert Wayne Martin, 79, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on June 7, 1931, in Pettis County, a son of Everett William and Edna Ficken Martin.

 

On October 27, 1972, in Miami, OK, he was united in marriage to Judith K Priester, who survives of the home.

 

He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, Sedalia. He worked as an auto mechanic at Whiteman Air Force Base for 20 years and Ollison Used Cars for 20 years. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean war.

 

Herb was known for being ornery. Wood working was one of his favorite hobbies. He was a friend to all and never knew a stranger. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Tammy Thomas (Kenny) of Green Ridge, Pam Harrison (Bob) of Sedalia, Barbara Ollison (Bob) of Smithton, Arlene Tucker (Charles) of Louise, TX, Dana Volek (Marvin) of Alvin, TX; four sons, Edward Martin of Hinesville, GA, Don Martin (Maria) of El Campo, TX, Thomas Martin (Mary) of El Campo, TX, Billy Schrader of Prairie Home; three sisters, Ruth Kerr of Sedalia, Donna Bruns of Barnett, MO, and Jan Henson of Sedalia; two brothers, Charlie Martin of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Fred Martin of Sedalia; 27 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Herbert Martin, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Kropp and Sharon Dial; two brothers, Larry Martin and Bob Martin.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Craig Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the funeral chapel.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions to Bothwell Cancer Center or Bethany Baptist Church in care of the funeral chapel.

 

Pallbearers will be Warren Preuitt, Ross Hall, Dale Anderson, George McConnel, Brent Parker, Keith Ollison, Mike Cramer and Joe Wasson.

Honorary bearers will be Allen Strange, Jr., Jim Meyer, Bob Holem, Wayne Tucker, Earl Fielder, and Ronnie Ollison.

Judy Gail Morrison, 64, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. She was born on August 4,1946 in Dumas, TX, a daughter of Tobe and Dortha Mae Upchurch Hardin.

 

Judy was a beautician for years. She loved doing hair and being around people. She loved springtime, enjoyed gardening her flowers, reading, and traveling. She also enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques. She dearly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Judy adored her two dogs, Shadow and PopTart.

 

She is survived by two sons, Michael Shane Morrison and his wife Melissa of Sedalia and their children, Maegan, Matthew and Maximus; Stephen James Morrison and his wife Kimberly of Columbia; one sister, Kay Pummill and her husband Leroy of La Monte; a brother, James Demotte and his Mary Beth of LaMonte; and her life companion, Johnny Klein.

 

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, and a sister Mary Jane.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Rev. Corbet Martin officiating. Burial will be in La Monte Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 pm, Friday, February 11, 2011, at the funeral chapel.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mid-Mo Humane Society in care of the funeral home.

 

Pallbearers will be Brad Kindle, Travis Jobe, Tommy Kindle, Kevin Perkins, John Pummill and Matthew Smith.

Irma Mae Heard, 82, of Sedalia, passed away, Monday, February 7, 2011, at Tipton Oak Manor, Tipton, MO.  She was born on May 2, 1928, in Vardaman, MS, a daughter of John Wesley and Ellen McFalls Long.

On February 10, 1946, in Greenwood, MS, she was united in marriage to Joseph Heard, who preceded her in death in1997. Irma was a devoted wife to Joe for 51 years.

She moved from Mississippi to Missouri with her daughter, Wesley and lived here for 10 years until she met her savior face to face. She loved her family, enjoyed cooking, shopping for antiques and painting. She loved preparing for her grandchildren and looked forward to them coming home to visit her. She was a member of the Broadmeadow Methodist Church in Jackson, MS.

She is survived by two daughters, JoEllen Gillmar and her husband Terry of Spicewood, TX and Wesley Brown and her husband Eddie of Sedalia; a son, Dan Heard and his wife Patty of Flowood, MS; a brother, Robert Long and his wife Martha of Jackson, MS; a son-in-law, Gaylon Regan and his wife Kathleen of Brandon, MS; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Jasper, Maggie, Nathaniel, Anna, Caleb and Weston; and five great grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Zeldaree Wilson, Connie Fultz and Mildred Weber; four brothers, Van, Weston, Ted and Johnnie Long.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, February, 21, 2011, at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson, MS, with  Rev. Eddie Brown officiating. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Regan, Jasper Gillmar, Nathaniel Brown, Caleb Brown and Weston Heard Ostrander.

Thomas "Tom" Dean Hockaday, Sr., 70, of Sedalia, passed away, Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Four Seasons Living Center, Sedalia. He was born on August 1,1940, in Smithton, MO, a son of Thomas William Augustus and Edith (Young) Hockaday.

Tom lived most of his life in Sedalia. He played in several bands, Country-Western, Pop, Rock, and loved playing the guitar. He worked for Lake City Arsinal for several years and drove for The Yellow Cab Company in Sedalia. He was a Christian, attending several different churches here in Sedalia and regularly attending worship service at Four Seasons.

He is survived by three daughters, Cindy Sanchez of Wyoming, Kim Tubbs and Shannon Hockaday, both of Sedalia; one son, Thomas Hockaday, Jr of Sedalia; two sisters, Shirley Laramie and Mary Tucker both of Sedalia, one brother, John Hockaday and his wife Pam of Sedalia, six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and Hank Laramie his coffee buddy.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Donna Richardson and Katy Milledge; three brothers,William "Billy",Gregory Kent, and James Henry Hockaday.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Otterville.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm, Friday, February 4th, at the funeral chapel.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Bothwell Hospice or Four Seasons Living Center in care of the funeral chapel.

Pallbearers will be Cory Smith, David Hockaday, Gary Hockaday, Jim Steele, Walter Tubbs, and Tom Plantz.
