Obituary For Aaron Mitchell “Petey” Walter

Aaron Mitchell “Petey” Walter, 42, of Sedalia, MO, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 8, in Sedalia. He was born July 21, 1981, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, the son of Larry Walter and Toni (Atkinson) Walter.

On July 28, 2023, in Las Vegas, NV, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Anne M. (Ramey) Walter, who resides in the home.

Petey was a 2000 graduate of Smithton High School. He graduated from State Fair Community College in 2002 with an Associate of the Arts in Business Administration. He grew up on his parents farm where his brother and cousins spent a lot of their time. Some of his favorite memories were made with his wife traveling and sharing their love for sprint car racing. Petey was a beloved friend to many and would do anything for the people he loved. He was known for his kindness, integrity and humor.

Petey was known for owning the Petey’s 66 gas station where he worked for years, and socialized daily with his regular customers. He then spent some of his career working in the cabinet making industry. He enjoyed working at Jake’s Creative Woodworks, which then led him to open Cabinetry Pros.

Petey and his wife were dedicated members of the Sedalia Elks Lodge #125 where they spent a lot of their time socializing, playing poker and assisted with many charitable fundraisers. Petey also enjoyed a good golf game and was known to gamble a bit – usually quite successfully.

Petey recently became a first time grandpa to his grandson Bennett who he adored very much. It was very important to Petey to be an organ donor. Petey's father was a recipient of two kidney transplants.

In addition to his wife, Petey is survived by his mother, Toni Walter (Atkinson); brother, JR (Shelley) Walter; stepchildren, Savannah Townsend and Clayton (Amber) Townsend; grandson, Bennett Townsend; nieces, Katelyn, Kenady, Kirstan, Kemper, Khloie and Kalahia; nephews, Owen, Daegan, Kash and Silas and many other family and friends.

Petey was preceded in death by his father Larry Walter and maternal grandparents, John and Ernestine Atkinson; and paternal grandparents, Carl and Jessie Walter.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rusty Thomas officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the chapel.

Casket bearers will be Jake Gieschen, Cory Hoehns, Jason Moore, Travis Brown, James Reed, Chad Ragsdale, Kevin Ulmer, and Bryon Henderson. Honorary bearers will be Justin Caton, Josh Kroeger, Tanner Pearce, Blake Atkinson, Brett Atkinson, John Kozak, Cameron Scott, and Marcie Teter.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Smithton Youth Sports Foundation in Petey’s honor.
