Alfreda Lucille Smith, 78, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Katy Manor Nursing Home in Pilot Grove, Missouri. She was born on April 12, 1947, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond Schick and Margaret (Lemmons) Schick, who preceded her in death.
On March 20, 1980, in Streator, Illinois, she was united in marriage to Thomas Sherman Smith, who preceded her in death on February 10, 2021.
Alfreda was a longtime member of Discover Church in Sedalia. She enjoyed playing bingo and attending events at the Warsaw Shrine Club. Alfreda had a special love for collecting angel memorabilia and proudly had thousands of angels in her collection. She was especially known by her grandchildren for the love, support, and encouragement she gave so freely. Above all, Alfreda cherished her family and loved spending time with them during special occasions and holidays. She was deeply family-oriented and treasured every moment shared with those she loved.
Alfreda is survived by two sons, James Halgren (Stephanie) of Sedalia and Robert Halgren (Lynn) of Streator, Illinois; five grandchildren, Racheal Halgren (Sarah), Joshua Halgren (Morgan), Justin Halgren, Tyler Halgren, and Ryan Nagle (Summer); two great-granddaughters, Alaya Halgren and Sky Nagle; three great-grandsons, Grayson Halgren, Stolas Halgren, and Lake Nagle; two sisters, Sue Hammond and Anna Potts; two brothers, David Schick and Kenny Schick, all of Sedalia; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Alfreda was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Halgren.
A celebration of life gathering with viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Discover Church in Sedalia.
A private burial will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sedalia Open Door Ministries in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
