Alonzo Monroe "Al" Harris III, 71, of Sedalia, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Rest Haven Convalescent Home in Sedalia. He was born on March 15, 1955, in Sedalia, the son of Alonzo Monroe Harris Jr. and Ada Lorrene (Williams) Harris, who preceded him in death.

A lifelong resident of Sedalia, Al began his education at Broadway School in 1961. He later attended Horace Mann Elementary School, Jefferson School, and Smith-Cotton High School, graduating with the Class of 1973. During high school, he participated in concert choir from 1970 to 1972 and was a member of New Score in 1972. Al continued his education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he earned a degree in statistics in 1978.

While attending school, Al worked part-time at Rival Manufacturing and accepted a full-time position with the company following his college graduation. He later worked for Edwards Fiberglass for a little more than a year and was employed at the Alcolac Inc. chemical plant from 1984 until 1991. Al also worked in security at Bothwell Regional Health Center for eight and a half years through Guardsman Security. He later worked for Securitas Security at Tyson Foods, Waterloo Industries, and Hayes Wheels. His working years came to a close around 2017 following a diagnosis of dementia.

Al had a longtime interest in cards and operated a card shop from his home during the 1980s. He was also an enthusiastic and devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Faith was the foundation of Al's life. He was previously a member of Emmett Avenue Baptist Church in Sedalia, where he served for a time as song leader. He was also a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church for 22 years and had been a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church for approximately 15 years. Al lived a simple life, and his church, faith, and church family were what mattered most to him.

Al is survived by his loving church family and his special friend, Marsha Sanders.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Harris, and his sister, Alpha Marie Ford Harris, who passed away four days before her 65th birthday.

A celebration of Al's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church in Sedalia, with Pastor Marc Knapp officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia.
