Arlyss Marie Nutsch (née Hogan), 81, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 7th, 2023. She was born on June 14th, 1941, in Marysville, KS, the daughter of Lloyd (“Doc”) Hogan and Alma Wichman Hogan, who both preceded her in death. Arlyss grew up on the family farm in Kimeo, KS, and later moved with her family to Greenleaf, KS.
Arlyss attended Kimeo School, then Mount Saint Scholastica for Young Ladies in Atchison, KS, before graduating from Greenleaf High School in 1959.
On Valentine’s Day, 1971, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Dean Nutsch in Overland Park, KS, with the Carpenter’s song “We’ve only just begun” as the soundtrack to their first dance. After nearly 50 years of marriage, Chuck passed away in 2020.
Arlyss was a Real Estate broker in Olathe, KS, for many years. Arlyss’s retirement was spent in Olathe, KS, Sedalia, MO, and Belize, Central America. She loved the moon, the stars, and all things beautiful and magical. She relished ancient history and traveled the world in a quest for more knowledge. She loved and was loved by her family and friends, especially by her grandchildren.
Arlyss is survived by a brother, William (Bill) Hogan and a sister-in-law, Kathy Hogan of Arizona; a daughter, Dana Madsen Calcutt of California, MO; three sons, Jeffrey Easterberg of Belize, Central America, Thomas Easterberg of Sedalia, MO, and Michael Calcutt of California, MO; four grandchildren, Cale Madsen, Seth Beck, Alexis Beck, and Ryan Calcutt; one great-grandchild, Oskar Madsen; a sister-in-law, Winifred Nutsch of Morrowville, KS and a family of nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Arlyss was preceded in death by one grandson, Colin Madsen.
A family graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
