Obituary

Bertha Elizabeth Hamilton, 100, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on December 14, 1925, in Salt Pond Township, Missouri the daughter of Joe C. Johnson and Gloria Gladine Fulbright, who preceded her in death.

On October 9, 1954, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Alfred E. Hamilton, who preceded her in death on May 9, 1992.

Bertha attended Howard High School in Warrensburg, MO. She dedicated her career to caring for others as a Nurse's Aide at the Missouri State School in Marshall, MO, Campbell's Nursing Home in Campbell, MO, and Buford Home in Sedalia, MO. From an early age, Bertha devoted her life to Christ. She was a long-time member of Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church in Sedalia and was deeply involved in her church community and always ready to share her faith and spread the gospel.

She embraced life with joy; cherishing time spent with family and friends. Bertha had a passion for music, dancing, delicious food, and staying active. For much of her life, she kept fit by walking an impressive five miles a day.

Bertha is survived by a son Alfred E. Hamilton and his wife Tennie of Allen, TX; two grandchildren, Alfred Hamilton III (Jennifer) from Carol Stream, IL, and Kyle Hamilton (Lena) from Wylie, TX; five great-grandchildren, Kennan Johnson, Tamia Hamilton, Tylenn Hamilton Jr., Brendan Hamilton, and Londyn Hamilton; two nieces, Ernestine Fletcher and Rosemary Fountain and one great-niece, Donna Riley.

Besides her parents and husband, Bertha was preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick Douglas Johnson, and a grandson, Tylenn T. Hamilton.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with services to follow at Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church, Sedalia, with Pastor Calvin Pritchard officiating.

Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Taylor Chapel UMC in Sedalia, MO.

Service arrangements are in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
