Betty S. Hart, 84, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on December 10, 1941, in Florence, MO, the daughter of Earl Homan and Helen (Bremer) Homan, who preceded her in death.
On April 19, 1958, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Bennie Schaberg. They later divorced. From this union, Betty was blessed with two children, Cindy Askins and Rick Schaberg, and a grandson, Chris Schaberg.
On October 7, 1989, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Vaughn Hart, who preceded her in death on November 16, 2025.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Cindy Askins (Lanny), of Warrensburg; son, Rick Schaberg of Sedalia; grandson, Chris Schaberg; stepson, Aaron Hart (Rhonda), of Sedalia; stepdaughter, Dawn Kerkvliet (Travis), of Olathe; three step-grandsons, Joe Hart, Delan Askins, and Benson Kerkvliet; step-grandaughter, Molina Kerkvliet; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Betty was well known throughout Sedalia and the surrounding communities. She worked for many years as a bartender at the Sedalia Elks Lodge and also worked at Broadway Lanes Bowling Alley. She was an avid bowler and was very involved with junior bowling at Broadway Lanes. One of the greatest honors of her bowling life was being inducted into the Missouri Women's Bowling Hall of Fame.
Many will also remember Betty as the "Avon Lady." She began selling Avon in 1963 and continued serving her many customers and friends until her retirement in 2018, after 55 years of dedicated sales.
Betty was an active member of the Sedalia Elks Lodge BPOE #125, Sedalia Moose Lodge #1494, and American Legion Post #642. She enjoyed going to and having garage sales, watching dirt track racing, especially when her son-in-law, Lanny, was racing, following NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, fishing, playing Bingo, and playing cards at the Elks Lodge. Above all, Betty loved her family. Family reunions, holidays, and special occasions were some of her most treasured times.
In addition to her parents and husband, Vaughn, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Homan; two sisters, Shirley Johnson and her twin sister, Bonnie Lemler.
