Charles Joseph Wansing Sr., 92, of Sedalia, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles, MO. He was born on October 14, 1931, in Meta, MO, the son of William J and Rose M (Twehaus) Wansing, who preceded him in death.

Charlie's life was marked by his commitment to service. He graduated from Meta Area Schools and furthered his education in Electricity and Blueprint reading at J.C. Junior College and Metallurgy at the U.S. Armed Forces Institute in Tokyo, Japan. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War, a testament to his patriotism and bravery. After his service, Charlie worked at DeLongs for 15 years as a welder and bridge builder.

Charlie owned and operated Chez When Lounge, assisted by family members, for over 53 years. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Masonic Granite Lodge #272, Sedalia, the VFW Post 2591, Sedalia, and the American Legion Post 642, Sedalia. He was also a member of and contributor to Sacred Heart Catholic Church/School, Sedalia.

He also has many years of experience in lawn mower and small engine repairs at his little green shed at the Chez When.

Charlie was first married to Rosetta Rehagen, who preceded him in death on June 12, 2023, and later to Edna Self, who preceded him in death on January 30, 2004.

Charlie's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his children, Chuck Wansing II (Michele) of Arizona, David Wansing (Melissa), and Chuck Wansing III (Michelle), both of Missouri; his three daughters Sandra Poynter (Dean), Mary Morris, and Amy West (Mike), all of Missouri; his nine grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Lawrence Wansing (Jo Ann) of Meta, MO; his sister, Betty Jean Voss of St. Anthony, MO; and a special friend, Janice Lamb.

Charlie was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, John, and Clarence Wansing; one son, Mitch Wansing; a grandson, Dylan Wansing; one stepson, James Cable; and one stepdaughter, Tammi Forsee.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Chez When Lounge and will be announced by the family at a later date.

A private family burial will be held later at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
