Christopher Lee Burtis

August 13, 1979 — January 7, 2026

Christopher Lee Burtis, 46, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at his home. He was born on August 13, 1979, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Mark Edward Burtis and Connie Louise (Cardwell) Burtis, who reside in the home.

Chris never met a stranger, everyone was his friend. While language could sometimes be a challenge for him, Chris had no trouble proudly declaring, "Go Chiefs!" and "Royals baseball!" He had a joyful spirit and a heart full of enthusiasm for life.

Chris loved working at the Open Door Thrift Store, where breaking down boxes was his specialty. He especially enjoyed trips to Warsaw to check on his uncle's cows. Music brought him great happiness, and he loved country music, especially Garth Brooks, but could also sing along to The Beatles and Journey on any given day.

His favorite television shows were Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood and Knight Rider. Chris especially loved the theme songs and could often be found humming right along. He gave Special Olympics basketball and soccer a try, but sports weren't his niche. Grocery shopping, however, was right up his alley. Armed with a list, he eagerly participated in what was fondly known as "Shopping with Scharla," his training partner from the Ewing Vocational Center. Chris never returned home from a shopping trip without a big smile, and a box of Little Debbie Zebra Cakes.

In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by two brothers, Bill Burtis (Natasha) of California and his twin brother, Cory Burtis (Shandee) of Arizona; nephews, Gavin, Benjamin, Henry, and Bryden Burtis; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Chris was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Claude and Opal Cardwell, and his paternal grandparents, Bill and Betty Burtis.

A private family graveside service and burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sedalia Open Door Ministries, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
