David Lee Moon

May 23, 1955 — November 23, 2025

David Lee Moon, 70, of Hughesville, MO, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born on May 23, 1955, in Sedalia, the son of Clarence A. Moon and Cecilia D. (Moon) Bogan, who preceded him in death.

On June 6, 1985, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Laura M. Gamber, who resides in the home.

David was born and raised on Moon Road, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. After their marriage, he and Laura lived briefly in Maplewood before moving to the "South House" on South 65 Highway, where they spent five years. They eventually returned to Moon Road, where David felt most at home.

Hard-working and skilled with machinery, David farmed in his younger years and later drove semi-trucks. He went on to become a crane operator for MPI/Parkhurst for 15 years. He later worked for Poort Excavating and then spent 17 years with James Robertson at Robertson Custom Dozing, driving trucks and operating heavy equipment, a job he took great pride in. After retiring, he continued staying active by working at Nutrien Ag Solutions "down the road," simply because he liked to keep busy.

For more than 27 years, one of David's greatest joys was cutting firewood. If the weather allowed, that's where he wanted to be - out in the timber cutting wood. He loved riding his UTV through the countryside, taking pickup rides with his dog, Bailey, and spending time outdoors. David was an avid deer hunter and cherished the week he and his family spent hunting every season - naming the deer they saw regularly, sharing laughs, and taking pictures of each other dozing off in the stand.

David also loved simple evenings at home. In the summer, he enjoyed sitting outside under the carport with Laura, visiting around a fire. In the winter, he took pride in keeping his wood stove going, tending his fire every night, and relaxing in his shop until supper.

Another highlight of David's life was supporting local high school athletes. He loved going to ballgames and often traveled with the teams throughout the season, cheering them on wherever they played.

David will be remembered as a devoted husband, a hardworking man, and someone who found joy in the outdoors, family, and community.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by a son, Gary Gatewood (JoAnne), of Sedalia, MO, a daughter, Kristi Rae (Mike)of Houstonia, MO; three grandchildren, Wyatt Daniel Lakemper (Bre), Kinlee Marie Rae, and Kaela Gatewood; a sister, Judy Hunter (Earl) of Houstonia, MO; and other extended family, nieces, and nephews.

David was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Moon, Jr. and Richard Moon.
