Donald Leo Klein, 93, of Smithton, MO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on August 8, 2025. Don was born on July 16, 1932, on the family farm in Smithton, to Joe B. Klein and Helen Marie (Weller) Klein, who preceded him in death. He lived a life deeply rooted in faith, hard work, and strong family values.
On May 19, 1956, Don married the love of his life, Juanita May Aggeler, beginning a marriage that spanned 69 years. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in love, shared dreams, and a steadfast commitment to their family.
Don was a proud graduate of the 8th grade class at St. John's Bahner Catholic School. He often joked that it was a wonder he made it that far, yet he treasured the lifelong friendships formed there. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, spending time on the artillery front lines during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, earning the rank of Sergeant.
A dedicated farmer, Don spent his life working the land alongside his father until retirement. His son Jeff joined him in the fields in 1983, followed by his grandson Tyler in 2012. For Don, farming wasn't just a livelihood-it was a legacy, proudly passed down through generations.
Those who knew Don will remember his love for six simple things-each beginning with the letter "F": faith, family, friends, farming, fishing, and, of course, food. These guiding principles shaped his life and remain his enduring legacy. Don was also an avid dancer, bringing joy to many through his easy smile and graceful steps.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering work ethic, and deep devotion to those he loved. His grandchildren will carry fond memories of his "grandpa advice," and his children will smile at the thought of his famous sayings.
In addition to his wife, Juanita, Don is survived by six children: Donna (Lee) Waters of Raytown; Randy (Gloria) Klein of Mora; Jeff (Stacey) Klein of Smithton; Mary (Joe) Sebben of Raymore; Joan (Joe Lee) Gerke of Pilot Grove; and Ricky (Missy) Klein of Independence. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Martha Doogs of Sedalia, Shari Farrington (Bob), and Carolyn Kaiser, both of Cole Camp; and a brother-in-law, Russell Harbit of Lee's Summit.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie Garrett, Dorothy Logan, Virginia Klein, James Klein, and Shirley Harbit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Sacred Heart Chapel, with Father Joe Corel officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m., prior to the visitation.
Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Bahner, MO, with full military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Sedalia VFW Post #2591.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Tyler Klein, Joseph Klein, Tony Sebben, Brent Gerke, Scott Gerke, and Jordan Brooks. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
