With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eldon Lee McClain, a loving son, devoted father, cherished grandfather, loyal friend, and proud veteran of the United States Army. He departed this life on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born on June 29, 1940, Eldon lived a life marked by service to his country, honesty, integrity, and a deep appreciation for life on the farm. He graduated from Smithton High School in 1958 and joined the Army soon after. After his military service, Eldon returned to life on the farm. Whether he was fixing fence, repairing farm equipment, tending to his cows and hogs, his work reflected his dedication to keep the farm running. Life on the farm brought him peace as he took great pride in taking care of his livestock and being a steward of the land. He was an avid reader and had a vast library of books. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling the U.S. to visit national parks. His hands were never idle-always crafting unique pieces from wood, metal or any other material he might have on hand. As a father, he was a steady hand and a guiding light - his children knew they could always count on his wisdom, honesty and unconditional love. As a grandfather, he delighted in every moment spent with his grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and lessons that will live on in their hearts. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught and the memories he created.
Eldon was more than family - he was a friend to many. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a hearty laugh, he made the world a better place.
He is survived by his children: Diana (Barry) Doty, Bryan (Amanda) McClain, Jason (Michelle) McClain, and Michael (Katie) McClain, and his grandchildren: Harley, Carrie, Faith, Logan, Charlie and Tyler who will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and kindness.
He is also survived by his daughter at heart; Ann Adams, and grandchildren at heart: Alexandra, William and Jacob.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents: Oelan Woodson and Alma Allene (Lee) McClain, Ralph Lee (Uncle), Riley Lee (Uncle), Bud Lee (Uncle) and daughter at heart, Lynn (Rees) Phillips.
He will be deeply missed; his spirit endures in the lives he touched and the wisdom he shared.
