Elroy E. Burton

Elroy E. Burton, 89, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. He was born on September 16, 1936, in Pettis County, MO, the son of Everett Burton and Bertha (Bybee) Burton, who preceded him in death.

On November 4, 1966, in Miami, OK, he was united in marriage to Sandra Whitfield, who resides in the home.

Elroy was born and raised on the family farm in western Pettis County. He was a proud graduate of Smith-Cotton High School, Class of 1954, where he excelled in sports, playing football, baseball, and running track. He continued his education at the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he also played baseball, before returning home to help operate the family farm.

Elroy began auctioneering at a young age and later earned his auctioneer certification. He went on to operate the Central Missouri Sales Company in Sedalia, where he became well-known in the local agriculture and livestock community.

Elroy enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and loved working outdoors, especially tending cattle and working the fields on his John Deere tractor. A true sports enthusiast, he enjoyed following football, baseball, sprint car racing, and NASCAR. Above all, Elroy cherished time spent with his family and took great pride in watching his grandsons grow into fine young men.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, Elroy is survived by his son, Eric Burton of Linn Creek, MO; a daughter, Shauna Burton of Grain Valley, MO; three grandchildren, Michael Burton, Ethan Burton, and Zach Burton; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Burton; three sisters, Marjorie (Al) Grother, Loretta Burton, and Lois (Otis) Thomas; and a nephew, Mark Thomas.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, with Chaplain Erich Kurz officiating.

Pallbearers will be Eric Burton, Michael Burton, Ethan Burton, Zach Burton, and Wayne Homan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
