Obituary For George Ottimer Reed

George Ottimer Reed, 74, of Sedalia, MO, passed away at home on Thursday, April 20, 2023. He was born on November 30, 1948, in Windsor, MO, the son of James Nathan Reed and Shirley Ann (Warren) Reed, who preceded him in death.

On August 17, 1969, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Linda Lou Harvey, who resides in the home.

George was raised on a farm south of Green Ridge. He attended all twelve years of school at Green Ridge and graduated in 1966. George graduated from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, in 1970 with a degree in Agricultural Business. He worked for Farmland Industries in Kansas City until 1973, when the family moved to Plainview, TX. He was General Manager/CEO/CFO of United Farm Industries in Plainview for 34 years before retiring in 2015. He was an honorary Hale County FFA member for all his years, serving as Treasurer of the Hale County stock show. He was President of the Texas Ag Coop Council and President of the Plainview Country Club for nine years. He was elected Texas State Cooperator of the Year. In addition, he served on several committees for the First United Methodist Church in Plainview, TX. George enjoyed trout fishing in Branson with family, playing golf, and especially loved spoiling his grandchildren, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife, George is survived by a daughter, Nikki Michelle Vickers (Doug) of Big Spring, TX; a son, Regan Scott Reed (Tracy) of Corinth, TX; four grandchildren, Sarah Ann Byrd, Bradley Steven Byrd, Remington Scott Reed (Cassie), and Rylee Sage Reed; a great-grandson, Grayson Scott Reed; three brothers, Jim Reed (Linda) of Green Ridge, MO, Richard Reed of Kansas City, MO, and Bill Reed (Jean) of Sedalia, MO; a sister, LeeAnn Musslin (Mike) of Sedalia, MO; his "sister wives," Julia Ray, Leslie Broaddus, and Joan Almaguer; and his brother-in-law, Bill Broaddus.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Sedalia, with Rev. Dr. Chad McMullin and Rev. John Streit officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the church.

Burial will be at Green Ridge Cemetery, Green Ridge, MO, with full military honors by the National Guard and VFW Post #2591.

Pallbearers will be Brian Reed, Craig Reed, Stetson Reed, Justin Ray, Dr. Matt Almaguer, and John Arthur Welton.

Honorary bearers will be Green Ridge Class of 1966 and long-time family friend George Whitman.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
