Georgia Allene Reid, 88, of Houstonia, MO, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at The Living Center, Marshall, MO. She was born on August 5, 1935, in Arcola, MO, the daughter of Allen Deck Hughes and Dora Mae (Whitley) Hughes, who preceded her in death.
On April 18, 1958, in Warsaw, MO, she was united in marriage to William T. Reid, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2004.
Georgia graduated from Stockton High School in 1953 and from the University of Missouri in 1957 with a BS Degree in Home Economics. She was an active volunteer for various organizations and a member of Range Line Presbyterian Church, Helen G. Steel Music Club, and Prairie Ridge FCE. In 2023, she was honored with the Heart of Missouri FCE award. Georgia eagerly anticipated the Missouri State Fair every year, where she worked in the Home Economics Building for over 30 years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and tatting, and cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Georgia is survived by two sons, Robert Reid and his wife Mary Beth of Houstonia, and David Reid and his wife Diane of Higginsville, MO; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Reid of Houstonia, MO; two sisters, Belva Jones and her husband Barkley of Stockton, MO, and Barbara Leonard of Milo, MO; six grandchildren, Shawn Reid (Carrie), Kristin Martin (Kevin), Andrea Kirkpatrick (Evan), Emily Twenter (Derek), Megan Madsen (Thad), and Adam Reid (Kelsey); eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Georgia was preceded in death by a son, Donald Reid; a brother, James H. Hughes; and a sister, Edna M. Chambers McCumber.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Pam Sebastian officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The burial will be at Houstonia Cemetery, Houstonia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Reid, Kevin Martin, Evan Kirkpatrick, Derek Twenter, Thad Madsen, Adam Reid and Chad Reid.
Honorary bearers will be Carrie Reid, Kristin Martin, Andrea Kirkpatrick, Emily Twenter, Megan Madsen, Kelsey Reid, and the members of Prairie Ridge FCE.
Memorial contributions may be made to Houstonia Cemetery Association in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
