Helen Marie Ewing, 85, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on April 26, 1940, in Hutchinson County, SD, the daughter of Edward H. Vining and Martha M. (Wudel) Vining, who preceded her in death.
On November 30, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD, Helen was united in marriage to Glen Ewing, who resides in the home.
Helen attended Worthen #4 School until the 8th grade, when she moved with her family to a farm in Plano Township northeast of Mitchell, SD. She graduated from Plano High School in May 1958 and began working at the ASC office in Mitchell shortly thereafter. Helen and Glen spent their married life farming and raising cattle and hogs on their farms near Plano and Alexandria, SD.
In 1980, they made a major life change and purchased acreage near Sedalia, MO, where they continued farming and raising cattle. After moving, Helen resumed her work at the ASC office before later becoming the manager of the Pittsburgh Corning Credit Union. She also served faithfully as secretary for Trinity Lutheran Church in Sedalia.
Family was always at the center of Helen's life. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed traveling, especially vacations with her sister and brother-in-law, and loved returning to South Dakota to visit relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband of over 66 years, Helen is survived by four children: Glenda Labenz of Omaha, NE; Janet (Wayne) Phillips of Sedalia, MO; Karen (Steve) Randall of Hughesville, MO; and Kurt (Robin) Ewing of Green Ridge, MO; a sister, Mary Ferguson of Worthington, MN; two sister-in-laws, Jean Ammon and Gladys Ewing both of Mitchell, SD; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela Ewing; two brothers, Tom and Ed Vining; a son-in-law, Mitch Labenz; and brother-in-laws, Myril Ferguson, Delvon Ammon, and Jim Ewing.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Christ & Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA), with Pastor Anne Kyle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Phillips, Ryan Randall, Blaine Ewing, Josh Caniglia, Jordan Caniglia, and Jamie Caniglia. Honorary bearers will be Brittany Shoop, Brooklyn Bailey, and Amanda Randall.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ & Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA), in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
