Ivan Poliakovskyi, 36, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Truman Lake near Warsaw, Missouri. He was born on February 8, 1990, in Kodaky, Ukraine, the son of Oleksandr Poliakovskyi, who resides in Ukraine, and Valentyna Zinchenko, who resides in California.
Ivan was a proud graduate of Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University in Odesa, Ukraine, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physics in 2011. Following his education, he worked as a mechanic aboard cargo ships based out of Ukraine, allowing him to travel throughout the world.
While Ivan was at sea, the war in Ukraine began. Seeking safety and a new beginning, he made the courageous decision to relocate to the United States with his mother. Ivan eventually settled in Sedalia, where he pursued his passion for automotive repair and worked as a mechanic at local auto repair shops.
Ivan was outgoing and social and treasured the time he spent with his many friends. He also enjoyed playing video games, through which he developed friendships with people from around the world. An outdoorsman at heart, Ivan appreciated nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors.
Known for his strong work ethic and remarkable technical abilities, Ivan was highly valued by his employers and co-workers. He was a gifted problem-solver who could repair almost anything placed before him. His intelligence, skill, and determination were matched by his kind and generous spirit.
Ivan genuinely cared about others and was always willing to help anyone in need. His warm personality made an immediate impression, and those who met him quickly came to appreciate and admire him. Friends frequently asked about Ivan and how he was doing, a reflection of the many meaningful connections he made throughout his life.
Ivan will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
In addition to his parents, Ivan is survived by his sister, Nadiia Poliakovska and her husband, Oleksii, of California; three half-siblings; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Lidiia Zinchenko; an uncle, Mykola Vasilitsky; and his paternal grandparents, Vitold Poliakovskyi and Vira Poliakovska.
