Obituary For James Ross Hall

Surrounded by his loving family, James Ross Hall passed away on Saturday, 6 August 2022, at University Hospital, Columbia, MO. Born in Sedalia on 12 October 1941, he was the son of Albert A. Hall and Betty L. Carver. On 13 August 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty L. Kelley, who survives the home. Ross leaves four sons, Boyd R. Hall and his wife Elizabeth of Bonaire, GA, Stephen W. Hall and his wife Karla Jo of Parkville, MO, Robert D. Hall of Sedalia, and James T. Hall and his wife Jacki of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle A. Hall. Ross also leaves two sisters, Linda Lou Barnes and Linda Mae Hudson; a brother, Ralph M. Smith; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ross joined the US Navy immediately upon graduating from Smith-Cotton High School in 1959 and retired as a Medical Corps Lieutenant in 1979. Ross made operational deployments aboard the USS Wahkiakum County (LST-1162), the USS Orion (AS-18), and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). He went on to work for Broderick and Bascom/MacWhyte wire rope company in Sedalia and fully retired in 1998. Ross was a Deacon at Bethany Baptist Church and cherished his relationship with his God and his church family. Easily bored, Ross Hall loved to work with his hands. A self-taught mechanic, carpenter, metalsmith, welder, and engineer, Ross loved to build things and help his friends and neighbors. If not working in his barn, Ross was usually in the company of his beloved wife, either enjoying a meal or watching youth sports. Ross was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt deer, rabbits, dove, and the occasional trespassing mole.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, 11 August 2022, at Bethany Baptist Church with Pastor Travis Battershell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Navy and VFW Post # 2591.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home in La Monte, MO, or Bethany Baptist Church.
