Obituary For Jane Stewart

H. Jane Stewart, 100, of Sedalia passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. She was born on September 12, 1921, in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Nelson and Floy McRoberts Brown. She was the second youngest of seven children. Jane began her career at age 21 as the editor of the Cedar Falls Register during World War II, where she was the youngest editor in the paper’s history. On March 22, 1944, she was united in marriage to Dr. Robert “Bob” Halsey Stewart, the love of her life, who preceded her in death on November 27, 1980. Sedalia became home when Dr. Stewart became the first radiologist at Bothwell Hospital. Whenever they had the chance, they would travel the world. They traveled to places such as Portugal, Greece, and Mexico, but Africa was their favorite. Jane loved to tell stories of their safari, including how she was able to bring home the biggest trophy.

Over the years, Jane was active in several organizations, including P.E.O., Bothwell Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary, Sorosis, and United Way. She served as United Way’s Executive Director during the 1980s and 1990s. Jane’s greatest source of pride was being a mother to Greg Stewart; grandmother to Jessica, Max, and Sydney Jane; great-grandmother (lovingly known as G.G.) to Charlotte, Allison, Amelia Jane, and Jolie.

Jane had two rules for living: do not worry and have no regrets. Solid advice from someone who lived until 100. Jane is survived by her son, Greg Stewart (Elizabeth), grandchildren, Jessica Cox (Adam), Max Stewart, and Sydney Stewart. Great-Nephews Scott (Jennifer), Trevor, and Terry (Lori) Murawski. Her great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Allison, Amelia, and Jolie Cox. Great-Great nephews, Riley, Brady, Alex, and Curtis Jr Murawski. Jane was preceded in death by her niece Lori, and grandnephew Curtis Murawski. A celebration of life with family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Camille Goblet Foundation in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
