Janet "LaRue" Cromer, 77, of Sedalia, MO, passed away at home on Monday, June 2, 2025. She was born on November 12, 1947, in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of Evan Drew Sampson and Mary Jane (Magers) Sampson, who preceded her in death.
On May 15, 2004, in Lake Tahoe, NV, at the Ponderosa Ranch, she was united in marriage to Claudie "Junior" Cromer, who resides in the home.
LaRue was a proud graduate of Elmer High School in Elmer, Missouri, class of 1965. She furthered her education by attending the School of the Ozarks, where she earned a degree in education. Later, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Central Missouri State University with a Master's Degree in Education. LaRue taught elementary school for 30 years and retired in July 2000.
An avid bird lover, LaRue had a particular fondness for hummingbirds and was a member of the Audubon Society. She could share extensive information about any bird if asked. In addition to her passion for birds, LaRue enjoyed sewing and crafting. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and was a devoted wife to her husband, Junior.
In addition to her husband, LaRue is survived by her bonus daughter, Kris Young (Jerry) of Sedalia; a bonus son, Travis Levi Cromer (Melissa) of Lebanon, MO; a brother, Paul Sampson (Jan) of Elmer, MO; two sisters, Marsha Nuhn of Kansas City, MO, Karsa Shipp (Steve) of LaPlata, MO; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, LaRue was preceded in death by a bonus son, Cameron Wayne Cromer, and a bonus daughter, Linda Bradley.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor John Hanson officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Young, Allen Young, Ann Young, Roy Cromer, Travis Cromer, and Grady Cromer.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
