Janet Ruth Thomas

Janet Ruth Thomas, 85, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on June 8, 1940, in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of William Lawrence Redmon and Ruby Pauline (Hulse) Redmon, who preceded her in death.

On October 8, 1961, in Columbia, MO, she was united in marriage to Marion Wallace Thomas, who survives in the home.

Janet was a proud graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia, Class of 1958, and went on to further her education at Christian College in Columbia. She devoted most of her life to being a loving homemaker. In her earlier years, she and her husband, Marion, owned and operated the Coast to Coast General Store in Butler, MO.

After moving to Sedalia, Janet became a dedicated member of First Christian Church, where she faithfully attended women's Bible study and volunteered in the youth program. She enjoyed reading, taking walks through her neighborhood, and spending time visiting residents at her mother's nursing home, especially those who seldom received visitors. Janet loved baking with her children and creating special memories in the kitchen. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother and found great joy in caring for her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Ruth Ann Thomas (Mike Knull) of Cole Camp, MO; Donnie Thomas of Sedalia, MO; Jeffery Thomas of Sedalia, MO; and Leslie Thomas (Jake Lowry) of Camdenton, MO.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Pat Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Chad McMullin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, MO.

Pallbearers will be Mitch Thomas, Kenneth Steiner, Jacob Lowry, and Mike Knull.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Thomas and Donnie Thomas.
