J.C. “Butch” Wells Jr (75) of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at his daughter’s home surrounded by family and friends. He was born December 15, 1947, in Lubbock, TX, to Inez and JC Wells, both of whom preceded him in death.
Butch grew up in Lubbock, graduated from Lubbock High, and attended Texas Tech. He met his (favorite ex) wife Barbara in Lubbock and started a family, having two children, Karla and Sarah. They moved to Sedalia in 1975 and have lived there since.
Butch was a jack of all trades. He was a carpet layer for Hobson’s for years. He went on to install swimming pools and build decks. He even started his own business, “Tubbies by Butch,” renting out a hot tub on a trailer for many celebrations in Sedalia. He was quite the handyman in and around the Sedalia area, doing many different jobs and making a ton of friends. He loved helping others.
Butch also enjoyed being Papa to his grandchildren, Jacob Kilgore (Little Rock, AR), Hannah Meyer (Sedalia), Elijah Wells (Sedalia), and bonus grandsons, Austin Shelledy (Sedalia) and Landyn Babineaux (Sedalia). He loved to teach them, especially to use their imagination and be creative. He was a fun Papa.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Wilson (Sedalia); his bonus daughters, Jamie Bowman (Sedalia) and Leslie Babineaux (Sedalia); his bonus son, Dustin Tietge (Moberly, MO); his sister Martha Naul (Lubbock, TX), as well as his grandchildren, some cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Karla, and his sister, Dorothy Sawyer.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
