Obituary For Jerry Wayne Goodson

Jerry Wayne Goodson, 75, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, surrounded by his family, at his home. He was born on September 22, 1948, in Carrollton, MO, the son of Walter and Louella Goodson, who preceded him in death.

On September 27, 1970, in Sedalia, MO, he was united in marriage to Shelly Shoemaker, who resides in the home.

Jerry graduated from Smith-Cotton High School, the class of 1967. He served his country honorably as a crew chief on a dust off helicopter, for the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment wrecker operator until his retirement. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2591. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Fox; four grandchildren, Ashley Ray, Annamarie Ray, Amanda Ray, and Kameron Atkins; four great-grandchildren, Rose, Justin, Liam, and Mitchell, and one on the way; two sisters, Judy Pickard, and Sharon Goodson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by two daughters, Jeanie Renne and Walleta Marie; one sister, Linda Collins, and one brother, Gary Goodson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the chapel.

The burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the VFW Post #2591.

Pallbearers will be Danny Sayers, Dudley Cramer, David Goodson, Bobby Snow, Jeff Collins, Jeff Paxton, and Neal Shoemaker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post #2591 in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
