Obituary

Jerry Lee Young, 77, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born on October 24, 1948, in Sedalia, the son of Richard James Young and Mildred Iverne England Young, who preceded him in death.

On July 10, 1980, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Annette Lane, who survives in the home.

Jerry was a proud graduate of Smith-Cotton High School, Class of 1966. He began his working career as a manager at Bing's Supermarket and later became a door-to-door vacuum salesman for a year or two. Later he also worked as a painter for Russell Marriott before eventually opening Young's Painting in Sedalia. Jerry later retired from the University of Central Missouri in 2009, where he served as Lead Painter in the Project Division.

Jerry enjoyed the simple things in life, especially time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching baseball. He also had a special talent for finding items at garage sales that others may have overlooked, taking them home, and repairing or refurbishing them. Jerry's ability to fix things, his steady work ethic, and his love for his family will be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Annette, Jerry is survived by two children, Kristina Newsom of Knob Noster, MO, and Jerry Young II and his wife, Sarah, of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Ellie, Brody, Emmie, Brandt, Bryce, and Jerry III; one sister, Jackie Allee and her husband, Irvin, of Sedalia; one brother, Jeff Young of Sedalia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Webb; and two brothers, Joe Young and Jimmy Young.

A private celebration of life gathering will be held by the family at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
