Johnathon Wayne Borland, 44, of Columbia, MO, formerly of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at his home in Columbia. He was born on September 28, 1981, in Sedalia, the son of Matthew W. Borland (Tonya) and Annette E. (Harrison) Ferolito (Nick), who all reside in Sedalia.
On April 14, 2007, in Patton, MO, he was united in marriage to Jami (Fulton) Borland, who resides in Columbia, MO. From this previous union, they had two wonderful children, Kolby and Brynn.
John was a man known for his big heart, sharp wit, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He grew up in Sedalia and carried with him a strong work ethic and a desire to lift up those around him. John spent much of his life working with and investing in people - especially through his involvement with GrassRoots, where he found not only purpose, but also a second family. He had a special gift for connecting with others, encouraging them, and offering guidance during some of their hardest moments. His mentorship changed countless lives, and he will be remembered for his compassion, honesty, and willingness to walk alongside anyone who needed a friend.
At home, John's greatest joy came from being a father. He loved Kolby and Brynn fiercely and was proud of the young people they are becoming. Whether cheering them on, giving advice, or simply being present, he was dedicated to making sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. John also cherished time with his extended family and lifelong friends, many of whom he continued to stay connected with no matter where life led him.
He enjoyed good conversation, good music, and good company. John had a contagious laugh and a personality that filled any room he walked into. Those close to him will forever remember his humor, loyalty, and his ability to make people feel seen, understood, and valued.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by two children, Kolby Borland and Brynn Borland, both of Columbia; two sisters, Elisia Krotzer (Eric) of Johnstown, PA, and Rachelle Linn (Andrew) of Buford, GA; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Harrison of Sedalia; a half brother, Zachary Borland of San Antonio, TX; a step-sister, Julie Seiz of Phoenix, AZ; his long-time mentor and friend, Rolando E. Barry (Teresa) of Columbia, MO; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; his companion Kristin Breuer of Rolla, MO; and his beloved GrassRoots family.
John was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Harrison; his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Barbara Borland and Alma and Neil Calkins; his aunt, Sonia Fall; and his uncle, Jeff Shipley.
