Jonnie Von Benton

September 3, 1938 — December 12, 2025

Jonnie Von Benton, 87, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. He was born on September 3, 1938, in Miami, FL, the son of Jonnie David Benton and Arlene Alethia (Bostick) Benton, who preceded him in death.

On June 26, 1961, in Denver, CO, Jon was united in marriage to Jacqueline Suzanne Galloway. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2009.

Jon spent his early childhood in Miami, FL, before moving with his family to Nashville, TN, and later to Denver, CO. He attended Denver West High School until the 11th grade, when he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956. While serving, he earned his GED. Following his time in the Navy, Jon joined the United States Army, where he served as a radio teletype operator and ham radio operator in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1962 with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4).

After his military service, Jon moved to Riverton, WY, where he worked as a laboratory technician chemist handling uranium for ten years. He later returned to Colorado, where he lived and worked until 1998. That year, he relocated to Warsaw, MO, where he retired at the age of 63. Jon lived in Warsaw for 15 years before moving to Sedalia in 2013.

Jon also enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an over-the-road semi-truck driver, traveling for 22 years. He visited all 48 contiguous states and four provinces in Canada, maintaining a perfect driving record with no accidents or traffic violations over several million miles. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and commendations. He retired from truck driving in 2001.

Jon was an avid reader who loved books of all kinds and often shared those he finished with friends. He also enjoyed fishing, especially during his years living in Warsaw. His other interests included listening to bluegrass music and talk radio. While on the road, Jon was rarely without his faithful companion, his beloved basset hound, Waldo, who could often be found roaming campgrounds nearby. Jon also took great pleasure in searching for treasures at antique malls and yard sales and enjoyed shopping at Menards.

Jon is survived by his children, Kenneth Benton, Patricia Puhl, John Benton (Tina), and Dallas Rosler (Criss); his grandchildren, Paul Benton, Bradley Puhl, Clint Puhl, Brandon Benton, Tyler Rosler, and Jonathon Rosler (Mollie); his great-granddaughter, Gemma Puhl; and a son-in-law Bill Feldpausch.

In addition to his wife and parents, Jon was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Feldpausch; grandson, Kenneth Jon Benton; a daughter-in-law Diane Benton, and a son-in-law, Troy Puhl.

A celebration of life gathering with family and friends will be announced at a later date.
