Juanita Jean Petree

November 8, 1945 — August 5, 2025

Juanita Jean Petree, 79, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at her daughter's home in Sedalia. She was born on November 8, 1945, in Perry, South Dakota, the daughter of John Lockhart and Charlotte (Elkins) Lockhart, who preceded her in death.

On April 12, 1969, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Gary Lee Petree, who preceded her in death on January 26, 2023.

Juanita was a proud graduate of Young High School in Independence, MO, Class of 1964. She was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated many years to raising her four daughters and caring for her husband, Gary. After her children were grown, she worked at Swift Manufacturing for several years, followed by over a decade as a daycare provider. She later joined Tyson Foods, where she retired after 13 years of dedicated service.

Juanita had a passion for sewing, crafting, and baking - especially her homemade bread. She enjoyed long conversations on the phone with friends and family, and loved bargain hunting at garage sales, thrift shops, and Wal-Mart. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, especially during the holidays when family gathered together.

Survivors include her four daughters, Melissa Hemme (Gary) of La Monte, Bobbie Nosich of Sedalia, Monica Lancaster (Chuck) of Sedalia, and Carma Petree of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Alexis McCracken (Robert), Matthew Brandkamp, Stephen Brandkamp (Britney), Carly Nosich, Mason Lancaster, and Shayla Kindle; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Lockhart and Pauline Wilson (Bobby), both of Independence, MO; a brother, Johnny Lockhart (Mary) of Pyatt, AR; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved cat, Judy.

In addition to her husband and parents, Juanita was preceded in death by six sisters: Carol, Mary Ellen, Donna, Alice, Betty Lou, and Sandy.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
