Kayla Renee Tobaben, 26, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 30, 1996, in Sedalia, the daughter of Wallace Dean Wasson and Julie Ann (Voight) Wasson, who reside in Sedalia.
On June 3, 2023, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Mitchell Tobaben, who resides in the home.
At a young age, Kayla took up the hobby of Taekwondo, which quickly became a passion. She gained a black belt and competed in various competitions and tournaments, earning her many medals and awards. Kayla was a member of the American Taekwondo Association. When she wasn't doing this, you could find her watching WWE, TNA, and AEW (wrestling) with her dad. Her love for wrestling never stopped.
Kayla was also an avid reader and was always seen with a book in her hand or nearby. She also loved listening to music and going to concerts. Kayla loved being with her family and going on nightly walks with her husband and son.
Kayla worked for several years at Wal-Mart, where she and Mitchell first met. She was such a loving and caring person who always gave out hugs. No matter how she was feeling, she always had a hug to give. Kayla loved her son more than anything and couldn't have been more proud. He was her happiest accomplishment. When she met her husband, Mitch, her life felt so complete. He never left her side through it all.
In addition to her husband and parents, Kayla is survived by her son, Aiden Tobaben, of the home; a brother, Travis Wasson of Sedalia; paternal grandparents, Larry and Elizabeth (Wasson) Craig of Sedalia; aunts and uncles, Mary and Mark White, William and Amy Wasson, Christina Voight, Marilyn Miller, Gary and Katy Voight, Leonard and Melissa Miller. Kayla was loved by so many cousins and family including, Shawna Shultz (Wasson), who was like a sister to Kayla, Ryan, her birthday buddy, Rhiannon, Gavin, Miranda, Karli and so so many more.
Kayla was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Gary, Sr. and Betty Voight, and paternal grandfather, Billy D. Wasson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour before the chapel service.
The burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Martin, Chris Tobaben, Ryan Wasson, and Alex Tobaben.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for her son, Aiden's, education fund.
