Kirk Dion Monsees, 55, of Smithton, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at his home.

He was born on September 24, 1970, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Philip D. Monsees, who resides in Smithton, and Virginia L. (Grimes) Monsees, who preceded him in death.

Kirk was a member of Lake Creek United Methodist Church, where he was baptized and confirmed on March 27, 1983. He also enjoyed attending the Lake Creek Camp Meetings throughout the years.

A proud graduate of Smithton High School, Kirk was a member of the Class of 1988. He continued his education at Central Missouri State University, where he double majored in computer science and actuarial science, graduating in 1992.

Kirk began his professional career with Towers Perrin in Kansas City, Missouri. He later moved to Florida, where he worked for Health First as Director of Information Technology.

Kirk had a natural ability to solve problems and took great satisfaction in building, repairing, and figuring out how things worked. He was also a talented cook who enjoyed preparing meals and creating recipes from scratch. In his free time, Kirk enjoyed going to the movie theater, watching movies at home, listening to music, caring for his pets, and working in the garden. He also appreciated the simple pleasure of a cold Dr. Pepper.

Above all, Kirk treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandson, Everett, who affectionately called him "Pop-Pop".

In addition to his father, Philip, and stepmother, Carol, Kirk is survived by three children, Brooke (Monsees) Rush and her husband, David, of Blue Springs, Missouri, Aleksis Grace of New Jersey, and Philip A.L. Monsees of Florida; two grandsons, Declan Rush and Everett Rush; three siblings, Kim Weymuth and her husband, Ken, of Sedalia, Missouri, Kris Monsees and his wife, Renee, of Versailles, Missouri, and Kari Monsees and his wife, Laura, of Raymore, Missouri; an uncle, Dale Monsees and his wife, Linda; an aunt, Mertie Grimes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

In addition to his mother, Virginia, Kirk was preceded in death by an uncle, Tom Grimes; and an aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Nolen Gieschen.

A celebration of Kirk's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jason McClain officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins at the funeral chapel.

A private family burial will be held at Smithton Cemetery in Smithton, Missouri.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Weymuth, Kelsey Weymuth, Kendall Weymuth, and Karson Weymuth.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Embassy, Inc. or the Sedalia Animal Shelter in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
