LaVerne Louise Monsees, 100, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Primrose Retirement Community, Sedalia. She was born on August 12, 1925, in rural Cole Camp, MO, the daughter of Walter L. and Ella A. (Brockschmidt) Kroenke, who preceded her in death.
On August 23, 1925, LaVerne was baptized by Rev. J.T. Roschke at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, Missouri. She was later confirmed on May 29, 1938, with Romans 5:1 as her confirmation verse: "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
LaVerne grew up near Cole Camp and attended St. John's Parochial School and Prairie Flower School. She graduated from Cole Camp High School in 1943 and moved to Sedalia the same year, where she worked in the payroll department of Rice Leghorn Farm and J.A. Lamy Manufacturing Company. Additionally, she worked at Interstate Studio and was a greeting card merchandiser for Hallmark Cards.
On November 10, 1946, LaVerne was united in marriage to Clarence H. Monsees at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, Missouri, with Rev. H.H. Heidbreder officiating. Clarence preceded her in death on April 8, 2003.
In 1947, LaVerne and Clarence transferred their church membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sedalia, Missouri. LaVerne served as a Sunday School teacher for several years and was an active member of St. Paul's LWML, holding numerous offices throughout her involvement.
LaVerne cherished her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening - both vegetables and flowers - and, in her later years, developed an interest in genealogy. In 2005, she compiled and published a book titled "The Legacy of Hermann Jurgen Kroencke."
LaVerne is survived by two daughters, Lois Diane (Sam) Curling of Mechanicsville, VA, Mona Ruth (Charles) McCormack of Sedalia, MO; one son, Eric Allen Monsees of Sedalia, MO; six grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Jared Monsees, Aaron Brown, Skylar Monsees, Samuel Curling III, Makayla Monsees; one step-grandson, Andrew McCormack; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nadine Mein of San Diego, CA and Elvera Satterwhite of Sedalia, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Jean; sister, Irma; and brother-in-laws, Orville Mein and Kenneth Satterwhite.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sedalia, MO, with Pastor Jeremy Freeman officiating.
The burial will follow at Cole Camp Memorial Cemetery, Cole Camp, MO.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Brown, Andrew McCormack, Jared Monsees, Dennis Mueller, Steve Davis, and Steve Monsees.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or St. Paul's Lutheran School, in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel.
