Obituary For Leonard Leroy Townsend

Leonard Leroy Townsend, 65, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on February 11, 2023, at his home in Douglasville. He was born on December 8, 1957, in Sedalia, MO, the son of Robert Spruell and Vernice Jones-Jordan.

Leonard accepted Christ at an early age and was Baptized at Ward Memorial Baptist Church. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School and went on to earn a Culinary Arts Degree from State Fair Community College. Leonard loved to travel, and he spent time between Missouri, California, and Georgia. His greatest joys came from playing the Bass Guitar and spending time with loved ones.

Leonard is survived by his mother, Vernice Jones-Jordan of Sedalia, MO; step-father Isaac Jordan of Sedalia, MO; brother Anthony Townsend of Columbia, MO; sisters Pamela Townsend of Columbia, MO; Nancy Black of Austell, GA; Minister Lela Jackson, of Huntsville, AL; 5 aunts, Julia Griffin of Philadelphia; Deloris Simmons of Kentucky; Brenda Chapman of Chicago, IL; Carolyn Anderson of Chicago, IL; Venola Lyons of Ohio; 3 uncles, Walter Anderson of Chicago, IL; Arlanis Anderson of Chicago, IL; Carl Lazell Anderson of Anderson, IN; 5 children, Jason Ballance of Columbia, MO, Nichole Williams of Powder Springs, GA; Leonard DeMar Pace of St. Louis, MO; Tyra Pace of St. Louis, MO; Logan Foley of Springfield, MO; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; and a host of family and friends.

Leonard is preceded in death by his father, Robert Spruell; step-sister, Amy Jordan; brother, Harold Spruell; brother, Earl Townsend; uncle, Vernell Anderson; aunt Gracie Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia. His final resting place will be in Powder Springs, GA.

Leonard was loved by many, and he will be greatly missed.
