Martha Y. South, age 84, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, with family by her side. She was born on February 7, 1939, to Lewis and Irene Hammond in Pettis County.
On December 23, 1989, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Earl W. South, who resides in the home.
She owned and operated a Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio in Sedalia for 20 years. She was a member of First Christian Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary post 2591, Sedalia Ladies of the Moose, the Ladies Elks Lodge 2705, and Sorosis.
She loved to play bridge and was very competitive at it, winning several regional bridge tournaments. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and bragged about them often.
She is survived by her husband, Earl W. South; sons, Steve (Linda) Reine of Blue Springs and Terry (Kathy) Reine of Independence; step-daughters, Shanah (Joel) Johnson and Amber Noelle (Mike) Selby, both from Greenwood, IN; grandchildren, Justin (Jeanette) Reine, Skyler (Amanda) Reine, Austin Reine, Ambrea Reine, Heather (David) Medlin, and Todd Conn; step-grandchildren, Amy Selby, and Kari Johnson; great-grandchildren, Hunter Fletcher, Joseph and Jason Reine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Irene Hammond; her brother, Lewis Hammond Jr.; and her husband, Joseph (Jody) L. Reine, Jr.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Justin Reine officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
The burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hopewell Cemetery in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
