Marvin Eugene Smith, 94, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia, Missouri. Born on November 3, 1931, in Clay County, Missouri, he was the son of Eugene Smith and Ola (Dudley) Smith, both of whom preceded him in death.
On May 25, 1959, in Liberty, MO, Marvin was united in marriage to Shirley Fletcher, who survives at their home.
Marvin served as the General Manager for Commonwealth Theaters in Sedalia, including the Fox Theater, Uptown Theater, the Highway 50 Drive-In Theater, and Twin Cinema. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service to the Sedalia community. He also served as a police office in Parkville, Missouri back in the 1960's. Marvin enjoyed fishing and, above all, cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren at the theaters. He especially treasured family gatherings during holidays and special occasions.
In addition to his wife, Marvin is survived by his six sons: Larry Smith of Sedalia; Garry Smith (Molly) of San Antonio, Texas; Robert Smith of Pattonsburg, Missouri; Ward Smith of Warsaw, Missouri; Jerry Smith (Lynde) of Chillicothe, Missouri; and Mike Smith (Becky) of Trenton, Missouri; a daughter Linda Carol Houser of Warsaw, Missouri; He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Marvin was also preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Sue Murphy; and two sisters, Shirley Noble and Norma Smith.
No formal services are planned at this time.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
