Obituary For Mary Elizabeth Jones

Mary "Marie" Elizabeth Jones, 102, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at E.W. Thompson in Sedalia. She was born on January 22, 1921, in Clifton City, MO, the daughter of Frank Peter Gramlich and Emma (Whitman) Gramlich.

On January 23, 1943, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Herbert D. Bodenhamer, who preceded her in death in 1973. Their two children are Dr.Fred Bodenhamer of Jefferson City and Patsy Pettit of Sedalia. On July 17, 1982, in Sedalia, MO, Marie was united in marriage to Vannie E. Jones, who preceded her in death.

Marie described herself as a pioneer - she was one of eight siblings and one of the few people who did walk over a mile to school through all kinds of weather because she valued her education. She graduated from Smithton High School. Marie was the first woman to be hired by the Sedalia Post Office and had her own income tax business.Marie and Van delivered many Meals On Wheels meals together. She loved company, was an avid card player, and could not miss a garage sale - she did not know a stranger.

Survivors include three grandchildren Barrett Wulf (Isabella) of Sedalia, Dr. Bret Bodenhamer (Emma) of Jefferson City,and Laura Landwehr (Louis) of Jefferson City. Five great grandchildren, Natalie, Nicole, Brooks, Beau, and Brecklyn.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Pauline Johnson, Agnes Schuster, Carl Gramlich, Patty Felten, Ann Shugart, Margaret Schuster, and Louise Stoeklin, and granddaughter Dr. Sally Bodenhamer

A Catholic prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2023, at Rea Funeral Chapel with Deacon Arvol Bartok officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Clifton City, MO.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Bret Bodenhamer, Dr.Fred Bodenhamer, Barrett Wulf, Rick Pettit, and Joe Whitlow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meals On Wheels in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
