Mary Sue Sutton, 92, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born on October 2, 1933, in Sedalia, the daughter of William Stanley Schmidt and Sarah Elizabeth (Farris) Schmidt, who preceded her in death. She also grew up with 3 brothers and 3 sisters all who also preceded her in death.
On September 16, 1961, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Mary Sue was united in marriage to Ted Sutton. They shared a lifetime of memories until his passing. Previously, she was married to Oliver "Buck" Ringgold who preceded her in death.
Sue's life was marked by hard work, resilience, and the ability to make a home wherever she landed. Over the years, she lived in Portsmouth, Virginia; Houston, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; Overland Park, Kansas; Clinton, Missouri; and Sedalia, Missouri, before later residing in Topeka. She held a variety of jobs throughout her working years, including waitress, meat wrapper, retail sales, dispatcher/secretary, and administrative clerk, roles that reflected her steady nature and willingness to do whatever was needed.
In her younger years, she and Ted were always the first to suggest a round of cards or a board game - a competitive spark that never truly faded. Whether she was rooting for her Kansas City Royals or playing along with the Game Show Network, she remained a competitor at heart, usually with her precious Princess curled up nearby. Princess was the one companion who could truly do no wrong in her eyes. Per her final, unshakable instructions, the two will be laid to rest together, ensuring they stay side-by-side forever.
Sue is survived by her son, Michael Ringgold and his wife Teresa of Topeka KS; daughter, Kris Skinner and her husband Larry of Yale, OK; two grandsons, John Ringgold and his wife Cynthia, of Topeka, KS and Brad Skinner and his wife Jeanette of Yale, OK; two granddaughters, Stacey Lambert and her husband C.B. of Paducah, KY, and Kim Huddle and her husband Lee of Midlothian, TX; 11 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, Missouri, with Pastor Aaron Roberts officiating.
