Roy "Red" Wayne Bryson, 85, of Sedalia, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, November 21, 2025, at his home. He was born on April 5, 1940, in Sedalia, the son of Roy Lee Bryson and Mary E. (Glazebrook) Bryson, who preceded him in death.
On November 7, 1958, in Green Ridge, MO, Roy was united in marriage to Sarah Elaine Brown. They shared 67 wonderful years together, and she survives in the home.
Roy was a proud graduate of Cole Camp High School, Class of 1958. He continued his education earning engineering certifications, which led to a long and dedicated 42-year career with the Missouri Department of Transportation as a Senior Construction Inspector. He retired in 1999.
A man of deep faith, Roy was an active and devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sedalia. He served faithfully on numerous committees, taught Sunday School, and was honored to serve as a long-time Trustee.
Roy was first and foremost a family man. He loved supporting his children in all their activities and spent many years coaching youth baseball and soccer. He served on the Paul Clover Soccer League Board of Directors and was known for his enthusiasm for youth sports throughout the community. Roy was also an avid sports fan and a proud supporter of the State Fair Community College Booster Club.
In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by two children, Kim McMullen (Douglas) and Scott Bryson, both of Lee's Summit, MO; five grandchildren, Evan (Allison), Tyler (Sia), Taylor (Casey), Brooke, and Olivia (Vincent); and three great-grandchildren, Knox, Nash, and Myles. He is also survived by his brother, John D. Bryson of Sedalia, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Bryson; a brother, Robert Lee Bryson; and a sister, Mary Jo Bryson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2025, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jonathan Wallenbeck officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Goff, Richard Robinson, Mike Scott, Randy Nichols, Norm Klein, and Caroll Howard.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
