Russell Dale DeHaven, Sr., 67, of Smithton, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at his home. He was born on June 12, 1958, in Sedalia, the son of Honce Leslie and Betty Lou (Trout) DeHaven, who reside in Smithton.
Russell worked in the construction and concrete industry as an excavator and was the proud owner and operator of DeHaven Excavation in Smithton. He and his son, Russ Jr., shared many years working side by side, building not only a business but a legacy of hard work and dedication.
A true motorcycle enthusiast, Russell loved his Harley-Davidsons and enjoyed countless road trips and poker runs with his biker friends. He had a big heart and a generous spirit - always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, whether family, friend, or stranger.
Russell's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his son and grandchildren. He considered himself blessed to live close to them as they grew up. Residing on the family farm, Russell cherished the daily moments spent with his parents and the deep roots of home and family that surrounded him.
In addition to his parents, Russell is survived by his son, Russell Dale DeHaven, Jr. (Jill); a sister, Mary DeHaven; a brother, Bob DeHaven (Angela), all of Smithton; four grandchildren, Sierra, Kendall, Emma, and Levi; three nieces, Erica Ashley (John), Annie DeHaven, and Lynnie Tripp (Tom); a great-niece, Kaitlynn Shippman; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William "Bill" and Pauline (Pratt) Trout; paternal grandparents, James "Les" and Lucy (McFatrich) DeHaven; a brother, Terry Leslie DeHaven; and a son, Donnie Leslie DeHaven.
Services are pending at this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in honor of Russell's memory, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
