Sarah Ruth Shaw, 83, of Sedalia, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on March 15, 1941, in Winfield, KS, the daughter of John Joseph Gracey and Harriett Matilda McMillen Gracey, who preceded her in death.
On May 28, 1966, in Wichita, KS, she was united in marriage to Robert Shaw, who resides in the home.
Sarah graduated from Winfield High School in 1959. She then attended and graduated cosmetology school. She later started working for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS, until 1967, at which time she left to be a stay-at-home mom raising her three children. In 1978, her family moved to Sedalia, where she started the company Specialty Sportswear in her basement. Her company grew to be known around the country for the quality embroidery service she provided, doing work for many large garment manufacturing companies around the United States. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and boston terrier around the country in their motor home. When not traveling, she took pleasure in genealogy, sewing, and quilting for hobbies. She was active in the local DAR for many years.
In addition to her husband, Sarah is survived by two sons, Bill Shaw (Kim Turner) and Rusty Shaw, both of Sedalia; a daughter, Cindy Shaw Harris and her husband Kendall of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Mitchell, Alexander, Erica, and Abigail; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Gracey.
A private burial with immediate family will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery.
A celebration of life gathering with family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Katy Park Baptist Church, 901 W. 24th St, in Sedalia, MO.
The pallbearers will be Bill Shaw, Rusty Shaw, Cindy Harris, Mitchell Shaw, Alex Harris, Erica Price, and Abby Harris.
Honorary bearers will be Erle Price Jr. and Cheyanne Zinck.
