Shelly Renne Goodson, 73, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. She was born July 28, 1952, in Boonville, Missouri, the daughter of William Shoemaker and Anna (Biggs) Shoemaker, who preceded her in death.
On September 27, 1970, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Jerry Goodson. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2023.
Shelly attended Smith-Cotton High School and later earned her GED in 1992. She devoted 15 years of service to Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia, where she worked as a Certified Medical Technician, Activities Director, and Restorative Aide before retiring.
Shelly found joy in the simple, meaningful things in life, crafting, fishing, gardening, and baking pies that brought people together. She especially loved the outdoors, whether camping or spending time outside with those she loved. A loyal NASCAR fan, she also poured her heart into her family, rarely missing her daughter and granddaughters' activities. Shelly was proud to coach softball and was always in the stands cheering them on.
Shelly is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Fox; four grandchildren, Ashley Ray, Annamarie Messina (Christian), Amanda Ray, and Kameron Atkins; six great-grandchildren, Justin, Rose, Liam, Wren, Mitchell, Jeremiah, and one great-grandchild on the way; a sister, Norma Danforth (Bill) of Blue Springs, Missouri; a brother, Monte Shoemaker of Longwood, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shelly was preceded in death by two daughters, Jeanie Goodson and Walleta Goodson; two brothers, Wayne Shoemaker and Greg Shoemaker; and a sister, Kathleen Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Andy Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sedalia VFW Post #2591 Auxiliary in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
