Steven Floyd Giffen, 69, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on September 24, 2026, at his home in Sedalia. He was born on February 5, 1957, in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of William and Hester Giffen, who preceded him in death.

Steve graduated from Sweet Springs High School with the Class of 1975, where he excelled on the football field and built lifelong friendships with his teammates. He dedicated nearly 33 years to the Missouri Department of Transportation, retiring as an area foreman. For about 30 years, he also found joy working with auction companies as a side hobby. Steve was a passionate outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He served on the Sweet Springs School Board and spent more than 20 summers coaching baseball, making a lasting impact on countless young people. In his later years, he enjoyed restoring antique furniture. Above all, his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren.

Steve is survived by his companion of 25 years, Sherry Smith of the home, three sons, Eric Giffen (Jenny) of Sweet Springs, MO, Beau Giffen (Jessica) of Boonville, MO, and Kyle Giffen (Becky) of Lake St. Louis, MO; two step-children, Amy Bell (Dawn) of Kansas City, MO and Steve Bell (Alex) of Sedalia, MO; ten grandchildren, Zack Giffen (Addison), Kyla Giffen, Seth Giffen, Briar Giffen, Willow Giffen, Hazel Giffen, Madelyn Bell, Morgan Bell, Monroe Bell, and Tripp Rutledge; one sister, Wanda Newton of Marshall, MO; one brother, Mike Giffen of Warsaw, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Besides his parents, Steve is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Dierker, and a special grandmother, Lillie Hasket.

A celebration of life gathering of family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Mattingly Buiding, 323 S. Miller St., Sweet Springs, MO.

Honorary bearers will be Bob Sleeper, Jon Heerman, Charlie Sidwell, and Rick Arnold.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
