Tong Chaney

March 18, 1945 — November 24, 2025

Tong "Judy" Chaney, 80, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia. She was born on March 18, 1945, in Hongsong-kun, Korea, the daughter of Su Pok Kim and Tal Ye Kim, who preceded her in death.

On October 16, 1968, in Seoul, Korea, she was united in marriage to Allen J. Edwards, who preceded her in death on May 9, 2016.

Tong was born and raised in Korea, where she developed the spicy, resilient personality her family lovingly remembers. Although her formal education ended in elementary school due to financial hardship, Tong never stopped learning. Through determination and practice, she and her siblings taught themselves to read and write fluently in both Korean and English, a reflection of her intellect and strong will.

After marrying Allen, Tong made Missouri her home and later lived in New Mexico, Texas, and Pennsylvania. In 2013, she joyfully returned to Missouri to be close to her daughter, Kim, spending her remaining years surrounded by family and familiar comforts.

Tong worked for more than forty years as a seamstress, creating countless garments and carpets with meticulous skill and care. She took quiet pride in her craft and earned the deep respect of those she worked alongside.

Family was the center of Tong's world. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed preparing her favorite Korean dishes, bulgogi, galbi, spicy chicken, kimchi, and many others that became family favorites. At home, she found joy in watching tennis, Judge Judy, professional wrestling, and old Westerns. These simple pleasures brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life.

Though she seldom attended church services, Tong maintained a strong and enduring personal faith in God and in Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim G. Bail (Mitch) of Sedalia; and two grandchildren, Stella Bail and Garrett Thomas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
