IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne Clifton
Johnson
March 25, 1945 – February 13, 2026
Wayne Clifton Johnson, 80, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026, at Aspire Senior Living in Warsaw, Missouri. He was born March 25, 1945, in Sedalia, the son of Joseph L. Johnson and Leota M. (Jones) Johnson, who preceded him in death.
He was previously married to Linda Evans, who resides in Sedalia.
Wayne attended Smith-Cotton High School and spent his working years as a skilled carpenter and carpet layer in the Kansas City area. He had a true knack for hands-on work and took pride in doing things the right way, often with his own two hands. Wayne loved anything with an engine and a story, especially old cars. He enjoyed collecting them, turning wrenches, and spending time at auto auctions and car shows.
Wayne also had an eye for potential. He enjoyed flipping houses, buying a place, remodeling it himself, and either selling it or fixing it up to rent out. When he wasn't busy with a project, you could often find him cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. He especially enjoyed watching football with his nephew, Bruce Norton. One of his favorite simple pleasures was sitting on his front porch on East Broadway, sipping a beer and watching the traffic roll by.
Wayne is survived by three daughters, Melissa Ross (Jeff) of Russellville, Missouri, Shelly Smasal (Sam) of Sedalia, and Heather Johnson of Sedalia; a son, Chris Johnson of Florence, Missouri; two grandchildren, Lucas Schwering (Taylor) and Morgan Schwering (Phillip Markey); three great-granddaughters, Rylee Jo Schwering, Olivia Marie Markey, and Isla Rose Markey; a sister, Dolores Norton (Bob) of Sedalia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph "Joe" L. Johnson Jr., and a sister, Evelyn Johnson.
The family will hold a celebration of life gathering at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
